“I say that because we also have news reports now coming in that the US and UK warships are headed into the Mediterranean. On one of the US ships is probably a Marine Expeditionary Unit,” Johnson said.

So the situation “has now escalated tensions in the region beyond what they were, even after the attack on the Iranian consul in April in Beirut,” according to him.

The Arab Parliament has strongly condemned Israel’s “heinous massacre” of Palestinian civilians in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central part of the Gaza Strip, calling on the international community to pressure the occupying regime to stop its genocidal war on the besieged enclave.

Syria says Israel carried out the “brutal massacre” in the town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Height in an attempt to escalate tensions in the region.

The Russian Ambassador to Israel expressed condolences to the Druze, and not to Israel.

Venezuela is calm so far.  The voting process is underway and as usual, very well organized.  It is early afternoon and the voting is a little slower now.  The international observers are taking this time to give their first reports and are generally reporting a calm and effective voting process.  Venezuela has both a system of paper voting as well as a system of electronic voting.  One votes by machine, you get your ticket printed out and then you place your paper ticket in the box of the candidate that you are voting for.  Generally about 50% of voters have done their duty and results are estimated to be out by around 10 pm this evening.
