The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin at the Regular Press Conference had a few cutting things to say. For example, a question from China Daily: “The PRC Is Not a Developing Country Act was passed in the US House not long ago, which “requires the Department of State to take actions to stop China from being classified as a developing country by international organizations”
The reply was extensive and included: “The US does not get to decide whether China is a developing country.”
“From 2013 to 2021, China has contributed about 38.6% of world economic growth annually on average, higher than that of G7 countries combined. China was the first to realize the Millennium Development Goals and accounted for more than 70% of world poverty reduction. We have become the second-largest contributor to the UN’s regular budget and peacekeeping assessments. In the WTO, the special and differential treatment provisions for China provide far less favorable support than the average level of support enjoyed by developing countries.”

Turkish elections are coming up on Sunday. I do not know if it will be peaceful but personally hope for an Erdogan win simply because we need some stability. The opposition candidate, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, has drawn together a large coalition and the polls are generally in his favor. A rainbow coalition will weaken Turkiye. Here are two articles, and I like the one from MK Bhadrakumar. Yet, the question is best stated by The Cradle’s correspondent. What if Putin loses Erdogan?

China shows teeth and deals with an irritant decisively. It is essentially a ‘get out’ or ‘get real’ message to Canada, i.e., Go play your wasteful games somewhere else. Canada sent a Chinese diplomat home. China sends the head of station in Shangai home with a few choice words.
From Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin’s Regular Press Conference on May 9, 2023
AFP: The Chinese foreign ministry declared a consul at Canada’s Consulate General in Shanghai persona non grata this afternoon and asked her to leave China no later than May 13. Could you offer more information on the reason behind this decision?
Wang Wenbin: Despite China’s serious démarches, Canada declared a Chinese diplomat “persona non grata” based on the false accusation of Chinese interference in Canada’s internal affairs. We strongly condemn and firmly oppose this. China has lodged serious démarches and strong protests to Canada.
China never interferes in other countries’ internal affairs. The interference claims about China are unfounded. They are ideology- and politically driven manipulation designed to slander and denigrate China. Canada’s ill-founded decision to declare our diplomat “persona non grata” is an egregious move that violates the basic norms governing international relations, and a deliberate blow to Canada’s relations with China.
For quite some time, Canadian media and senior politicians have cited so-called CSIS “classified documents” to smear the Chinese diplomatic and consular missions in Canada. None of the accusations are based on facts. They are trumped up with hidden agenda.
In reaction to Canada’s unscrupulous move, China has decided to take a reciprocal countermeasure by declaring Jennifer Lynn Lalonde, consul of the Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai persona non grata, who has been asked to leave China no later than May 13. This is a move to uphold China’s lawful rights and interests and is fully justified and necessary.
I want to stress that the Chinese diplomatic and consular missions and our diplomats and consular personnel in Canada abide by relevant international conventions and Canada’s laws and regulations. They have performed their duty in accordance with the law. The Canadian government’s ill-founded and erroneous action seriously harms the lawful rights and interests of Chinese diplomatic and consular personnel. China does not accept this. We will not waver in our resolve to uphold China’s interests. We urge Canada to stop its provocation at once. If Canada decides to continue its wanton act, China will react firmly and all consequences arising therefrom must be borne by Canada.

Russia is finally withdrawing from the frozen Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.
The system of international agreements Pax Americana, in force since the collapse of the USSR until February 2022, continues to lose relevance. The new international law will be formed by a new composition of players – and on different principles. It is becoming clearer by the day.

In a meeting with the Foreign Ministers of from Iran, Syria and Türkiye we see some progress. Mr Lavrov says:
Normalising relations between Turkiye and Syria will provide new opportunities to solve Syrian crisis
Facilitating safe and voluntary return of refugees to Syria is key
Hopeful no outside interference in Turkish election (This election is on Sunday and it is KEY!)
Syria roadmap will be prepared for next FM meeting. A roadmap is akin to a Plan of Action and it means that most of the niggly disagreements have been dealt with. It is a step forward.
Mr Lavrov also said that the US is creating a free Syrian army army in Syria by reconstituting its ISIS forces. One can understand that there is a timing imperative to conclude and enter into a roadmap.

It is a moot point whether Ukraine wins anything, or runs a counter-offensive or not. The Washington Post says that a failure of a counter-offensive is no reason to stop arms supplies to Ukraine and support will continue regardless of whether Ukraine’s military can retake territory from Russia. The UK Foreign Secretary Clevery said that while Ukrainian forces fared much better than many Western partners expected, there could be unforeseen developments ahead: When Moscow sends more troops, new men and more firepower to Ukraine, we must not stop helping Ukraine.’
The news is out, there is no counter-offensive and we are back: To the Last Ukrainian. So who is it that does not want peace?
Bloomberg has a completely nutty article out, saying that the West must both continue supporting Ukraine as well as prepare for negotiations and concessions. Somehow this doublethink is considered good analysis. (What is means it that they are on the outs, there is this realization, they cannot live with the idea that they’ve lost and have to define brilliant-sounding strategies that are totally meaningless and come from a domain of bad fairy tales and lying to themselves). Zaluzhny (Ukrainian military commander) refused to report to his NATO masters because he has nothing to say.

Pakistan is in an uproar after the detainment of Imran Khan and I do not believe it will calm down if he is not released. The Pakistani’s in support of Imran will tear the government from its pedestal. Even the private residence of Pakistan’s PM Shahbaz Sharif was torched by Imran Khan supporters Pakistan is a nuclear country and an unstable political climate is worrying. Here is somewhat of an overview but they are understating what is happening by many thousands. The timing is interesting as Pakistan just last month did a deal for Russian crude. The US gave Pakistan’s unelected coup regime its approval in arresting ex-PM Imran Khan, knowing full well it would cause chaos and then, refusing to comment on it (which is a de facto endorsement).

Today’s MoD report on the SMO has been posted in the Daily War Room:
Last night, the Russian Armed Forces launched a concentrated long-range, sea- and air-launched high-precision attack on temporary enemy reserve areas and ammunition depots.
◽️ The purpose of the strike has been achieved. All the assigned targets have been engaged.
◽️ As a result of the strikes, the movement of reserves as well as the delivery of ammunition to combat areas has been thwarted.
Besides this, “In Donetsk direction, assault detachments continued their offensive in the west part of the city of Artyomovsk. Airborne Troops support the action of the assault detachments paralysing the enemy on the flanks” we do not know what part the Musicians played.

Israel Kills 3 Jihad Leaders, 10 Civilians Inc. Women & Children In Surprise Gaza Strikes
Palestinian authorities reported 13 deaths from Israeli airstrikes in Gaza on Tuesday, including three Islamic Jihad commanders and 10 civilians.
Israeli cabinet security minister Israel Katz warned Hamas leaders could be targeted for assassination, while Islamic Jihad vowed to retaliate “at any moment and anywhere… to match the size of the crime”.
Forty jets took part in what Israel called “pinpoint strikes”, but a spokesperson admitted “we’re aware of some collateral and we’ll learn more as the day goes ahead”.

Saving the non-combatants
The list of front-line settlements in the Zaporozhye region that fell under partial evacuation will be expanded.
Ukrainian troops deployed armored vehicles to the front line in the Zaporozhye region
📝 “ The enemy has deployed armored vehicles to the front line. Its main part is hidden in underground vegetable stores in the Orekhovsky and Gulyaipolsky districts in the part of the Zaporozhye region controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine ,” said Vladimir Rogov, politician and member of the local administration
According to him, Ukrainian troops also deployed thousands of troops to the front line. (We do not know if this is accurate)
🔹 Rogov stressed that the situation in the region is tense, but there is no panic among the population.
✔️ On the eve of the authorities of the Zaporozhye region said that the counteroffensive of the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could begin in the coming days or even hours. (We do not know if this is accurate)
People understand that this is a temporary measure necessary for their safety in conditions of constant, deliberate shelling by the AFU militants. Residents who have already left the frontline areas urge fellow countrymen not to push their luck and say that arrivals from the Ukrainian side have been constant lately, and they are hitting civilian objects specifically.

Sheer and brutal Ukrainian terrorism is on the uptick and will remain a credible threat during this time when the end of WW2 is being celebrated. In many cases, Russia is excluded from celebrations. Germany had to crack though and had to remove their ban on Russian flags. Berlin Administrative Court lifts ban on display of Russian flags and symbols on 8-9 May
The drone attack on the Kremlin and The Prighozin File is feeding into Western media and is not good PR for Russia.
Currently I find it difficult to assess whether the war as a whole is heating up or if these events are overshadowing. The Russian MoD has reported that 22 Ukrainian drones attempting to attack Crimea and Sevastopol were destroyed over the Black Sea last evening.

Another great image to lead the discussion — and their impossible dream looks more possible with each passing week.
The Empire is wary of going head-to-head with Russia, but they could flex some military muscle in Latin America.
I should have added, that the longer the Empire waits to intervene militarily in the global south, the more difficult it becomes to justify, and the more difficult it becomes to pull it off without initiating a global firestorm.
They have a lot to think about.
