On June 25, 1876, over three thousand men, women, children and elderly from a number of tribes were traveling from where they had gathered to celebrate the summer solstice a few days earlier and had the unfortunate experience of coming across the U.S. 7th Cavalry, a force of around 700 men, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer. Although the battle resulted in the defeat of U.S. forces, it marked a turning point on the sentient beings way of life.
