Her status and youthful Marxist education made her views prescient and clear…and she was afraid of them. She was warning me as an adolescent to restrain myself and avoid attracting attention. I finished Helmer/Doctorow. Wow! I have a number of opinions about the men and their topics. Of the men, Gilbert is the better rhetorician, Helmer the better intellect. Of their topics Helmer’s point about the secret annex to the Cokester’s “peace plan” is very telling – he deduces it is an agreement to transfer of US nuclear bombs and “delivery” machines to nazi base 404. Since the delivery machines may be nominally German I assume it’ll be NATO (US) bombs engineered to slip right in and with compatible electronics. I deduce that the nazi HQ intent is to create a “frozen” conflict. (and that’d be a non-starter, and will result in the Red Army on the Polish border, which is probable anyway, imho). Halmer and Doctorow begin with some pretty blunt words for one-another, btw. Very long discussion, altogether near 2 hours! Though the great intellectuals depart after about 1:30:00. In court, I was taken to the basement, to a tiled cell with a simple wooden bench. Another strip-search. Then I had to wait to be handcuffed and led into the courtroom. Each time the proceedings were interrupted, I was handcuffed again and taken back to the “basement”.

Each time I returned from court, I was stripped naked in a transit room to undergo a thorough body search.”
