In the April 1st attack against Iran’s embassy compound in Damascus, Israel took no responsibility, but it could be proven that only Israels military could be responsible for it.

6: Iran’s missile attack in April was disproportional in the sense that a key goal was to force Israel to spend a large amount of its expensive and rare 1st tier missile defense interceptors.
But the actual impact was proportional: Striking the military assets (or their support infrastructure) that were used to strike the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus.

A capability display against a nuclear power with very fragile shallow strategic depth. Carefully calibrated to not escalate things further.

⭕ — 📝| READ: To understand better the issue of Iran not retaliating, we dive deeper into more complex problems that have created itself due to Iran’s current administration.

I’m going to write this in a manner so that everyone can understand it.

Giving a response/retaliation against israel, is a matter of both political as military permissions and capabilities.

Military wise, Iran has no issues. During April 1st “Operation True/Fullfilled Promise,” Iran retaliated against israel setting a new deterence while expecting a military response by israel, therefore Iran’s military (both the army & IRGC) were prepared, ready and awaiting for the worst case scenario.

The problem here is political. Operation True Promised was carried out during Iran’s former administration under martyr Raisi. The Raisi government was very pro-resistance but also very anti-imperialism, or rather anti-westoxification. Raisi’s government while not neglecting the West and being open to communication on negotiations regarding sanctions, it never compromised Iran’s redlines and resistance culture.

The new Pezeshkian governemnt of Iran, however, set forward a different approach. Pezeshkian’s administration is really just Zarif & his gang. Zarif is, albeit being supposedly pro-resistance, is not so much of an anti-west person. This last one is not binding to just one person, but mirrors to every official, small or important, that he puts into office. In order to not drift away too deep into this topic, which is a whole topic on itself, let’s limit it to: ‘Zarif trusts the Americans way too much’.

The issue of not retaliating/direct confrontation by Iran is a political issue, and that of Zarif’s & gang (under the cover of Pezeshkian—who’s not really much of a persona here). In the video attached, Foad Izadi, an Iranian expert on American affairs says on Soraya’s program that the Americans are experts in mindgames. After the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the Americans begun their psychological messaging campaign to Iran, asking to exercise restraint. The CIA knows how to pick their words and how to time certain messages, like repeating that a ceasefire is very close, but not seeing the end of it, because the Americans don’t want a ceasefire, but they try to buy time.

Zarif & Pezeshkian both said in New York, during the UNGA, that Iran received US’ request to exercise restraint as they are near a ceasefire resolution, “deceiving” these Iranian officials, to delay any Iranian retaliation for martyr Haniyeh’s assassination.

I put deceiving between quotation marks since we can’t say for certain of their intentions. But to put my own personal remark: Zarif is US’ most efficient and practical investment in Iran, so far.

Now that you understand the absence of Iran’s response for martyr Haniyeh’s assassination, it’s important to understand that this doesn’t mean that Iran has left alone the resistance at all. We’re solely talking about Iran’s personal loss of chance, in retaliating.

To avoid further confusion, Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, doesn’t fall under the category of “Iranian official”. He’s the sole reason for Iran’s continued support to the resistance. Iran has given many martyrs in the path of liberation. One of our prominent commanders was just confirmed martyred alongside Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Iran will continue support for Hezbollah (arms, intel, etc) and this won’t be affected by Iran’s (current) government.

Yes, the Supreme Leader in Iran TECHNICALLY has full authority, especially regarding foreign policy and national security matters. He is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, and the highest political and religious authority in the country. He is the Wali al-Faqih (Guardian Jurist), somewhat like the Pope for Catholics back in the day, having both spiritual and political power.

However, Ayatollah Khamenei, the current Supreme Leader for the past 35 years, rarely ever uses his executive power. If he wants to, he can issue a ‘Hokm-e Hokoomati’ (Executive Order) which must be obeyed and carried out by the government, but this rarely happens.

In reality, the Supreme Leader mostly acts as a ‘guide’. He publicly gives his opinion about something, and the current administration is expected to act roughly in line with the Supreme Leader’s vision, even if they are not an explicit unequivocal order.

For example, in the case of Ismael Haniyeh’s assassination, the Supreme Leader, both privately and publicly, claimed that Iran must carry out a ‘blood vengeance’ and retaliate for this crime. As mentioned before, this statement mostly acts as a guideline, not a direct order. Khamenei does this because if he signs too many executive orders, he will be seen as a dictator, especially by the more liberal factions of Iranian society. He also believes that the President, due to his democratic election, has a mandate of the people.

In the case of Haniyeh’s assassination, the new Pezeshkian administration, despite being clearly instructed to retaliate, decided to make a compromise with the US instead, and to retaliate at a later time in exchange for a ceasefire in Gaza. Obviously, this didnt’t happen, and now many Iranians are pissed off that the Supreme Leader’s instructions were bypassed.

For the record, the Supreme Leader could have easily chosen to simply directly order the strike on Israel, nobody could have disobeyed it, but it would have been perceived as undermining the new administration, which was clearly opposed to a strike in the immediate timeframe.

Ayatollah Khamenei has always taken the position of being a ‘concerned father’; he gives the government and the President a lot of freedom to do whatever they want, even if it goes against his guidelines, because he hopes they will realize that relying on the West simply does not work. Clearly, even after the past 45 years, the Reformists have not yet come to this realization, unlike the ‘Hardliners’ such as Raeesi and Jalili.

It is possible that after this incident, the Supreme Leader will still decide to directly order a strike against Israel after all, regardless of Pezeshkian’s wishes. He was simply trying to keep the national unity.

All in all, it seems that today was for real. We’ll have to wait to assess the damage, and Israel will try to cover up as much as possible, as usual. From the videos that are available, I would estimate at least 60-70 impacts in total, and that’s a conservative estimate. As of now, we can see 5 hits within this area: One direct hit on an Israeli C-130, which was removed from its parking spot after being hit. One direct hit on a protected hangar for Israeli F-35s ‘Adir’, with several of them possibly damaged or destroyed, if they were present in the hangar during the strike (some people say the hangar houses Israeli AWACs planes instead). Another hit slightly missed this hangar. The other two strikes hit the tarmac.

This is only a small part of the Nevatim airbase, and as the days pass, we will likely receive more satellite imagery. If there are 5 confirmed impacts in this section alone, the rest of the base was likely damaged heavily as well. And we have not yet seen any imagery from Tel Nof airbase in Tel Aviv.

⭕ Potential threat to the Russian Khmeimim airbase in Syria from Israel!

This morning, news spread in the Arab segment that the Israeli Air Force had struck the territory of the Russian Khmeimim airbase. It turned out that the attack was actually carried out on the city of Jableh, which is located nearby.

Some of the missiles were shot down by the Russian air defense forces, but some reached their target. The target of the attack was a warehouse used by Syrian and Iranian military personnel. The Israelis used Delilah anti-radiation cruise missiles and, according to some reports, GBU guided bombs for the attack.

There was no strike on Khmeimim itself. And in principle, such an attack was unlikely at this stage, as it would have led to unnecessary escalation. However, the Syrians have even more questions about why the Russian air defenses did not help repel the Israeli Air Force attacks.

❗️This incident adds another brick to the wall of distrust from the Syrians towards Russia. Even though the target was Jableh, the Israeli missiles posed a serious threat. An explosion, the detonation of warehouses used by Iranians, Syrians, whoever – this is a threat to the base.

And this doesn’t even touch on how it looks from the Iranian side. After all, nothing prevents the Israelis from running a disinformation campaign and claiming that it was the Russians who leaked the location of the Iranians (such a narrative is probably already being spread through militant-controlled media resources).

And given that the Israelis are acting with impunity now, while the Russian side is limited to calls to stop the escalation of violence and return to the negotiating table, such incidents may increase in scale in the future and lead to more tragic consequences.

🔻For example, striking the territory of the Russian airbase, that is, de facto the territory of the Russian Federation on the territory of Syria, under the pretext that there will be an Iranian delegation or plane there.
