I spent more time looking for news than usual today, and I don’t feel I found anything really newsworthy. Videos are nearly impossible to find. Iranian missiles and drones are hitting Israel, US bases, and Gulf infrastructure, but the details of what is actually being hit are nearly impossible to find.
I have items to post, but I’m going to post fewer than in the past. Most of what I”m running across is just talk talk talk and more talking. The firehose has definitely been cut off, and lots of people are trying to fill the dead air with AI.
At the end of the day my assessment continues to be that we are either watching the drama of USA surrendering to Russia play out or the deliberate destruction and looting of the USA by the global elite. Either way this ends badly for America. I think Canada is being setup to take the reins.
I refuse to give myself the hope that this is stupidity and hubris. I do not distinguish between Israel and the USA, or USrael as I call it. I also do not distinguish between any of the 5 Eyes members. I do not believe the intelligence community is stupid, nor do I believe they would allow this to happen if it wasn’t part of some grander plan (see JFK).

This next guy is a right-winger who has started to cotton on to what I’ve suspected from the beginning… Namely, that Trump is a plant to completely destroy the Republican Party in America for 20 or 30 years, if not forever. They need a uniparty to to full empire, if they can. Thoughtful observers realize the US is already a uniparty behind the scenes, but you’d be amazed how many genuinely intelligent and thoughtful people in the States are blind to that fact. Of course this guy thinks it’s all for Israel’s benefit.

Participant1.5 megawatts in 5 minutes… many people have no idea what that means. It’s equivalent to 2011.53 horsepower for 5 minutes. Yes, the decimal is correct. Two thousand horsepower. https://www.kylesconverter.com/power/megawatts-to-horsepower Somewhere an engine the size of a locomotive pulling a steep grade is spinning a big generator. In electrical terms the cables connecting the “charger” to the battery must carry both a very high voltage and also a very high current. The ‘net says the average US household uses 30 KWH per 24 hours. A megawatt is a thousand kw… If China says they can do it, they can…but the process is not a free ride. And personally I wonder about the losses associated with rapid charging…10% ? 20% The actual energy draw may be closer to 2 MW… transformer losses, line losses… I’ll stick to simpler machines, but then I’m conservative about exotic solutions to problems that create ever more exotic problems. In the electric car the chemical energy stored is not very far from an explosive. All’s well…until it isn’t.

ParticipantBYD atto 3 survived a missile impact in jerusalem.
Battery had no damage, and car was seemingly even operational, and family of five actually were relatively unscathed (no idea if they were zios, but focusing more on the structural integrity here rather than any desired results). Last year during the 12 day, an Xpeng (another chinese brand) also didn’t ignite the electrical engine and battery components were still intact with no discharge or explosion. Also likely that Chinese manufacturing advances kept their physical integrity- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDmA_BQczvg
BYD and CATL (battery company) are increasingly using blade or solid state batteries (safer, more compact and efficient design), and the lithium phosphate tech usually requires 500C to ignite- traditional nickel batteries are 200C. And soon both will be rolling out sodium ion batteries, which simply just don’t ignite in almost any condition (and work in extreme temperature with little to no charging loss that you get from lithium).
Generally battery fires are very very rare in cars- but you actually get thousands of gas/diesel car fires every year that never make the news because they are conditioned as a norm, yet the very rare story of battery fires gets the news, often framed in a way to stop the transition away from hydrocarbons. I’m not an engineer so perhaps you are correct in terms of the potential energy stored, but from what science I have seen and understand, the danger seems minimal? And again, certainly less dangerous than the risk of ICE cars going boom- for instance, in parts of Xizang/tibet and elevated areas in China, you cannot fill up directly at the pump for gas cars/motors- due to the dry air and extreme weather conditions, it is far too easy for the tanks to explode from static or overheating, so they must be stationed at a distance and filled from a separate container attendants bring.

Mr P
Participantsaturated gasoline vapor at sea level pressure is not ignitable and not explosive…same with jet fuel and diesel, but batteries are because, unlike petro fuel, all the reagent material exists in the same “can”….and I have experienced battery explosions. It’s interesting that the classical gas gauge in the tank of millions of cars is electric, gets warm (it’s a wirewound resistor) and is capable of sparks…but there is never a tank explosion. Naturally engineering solutions patch the problem with batteries. My observation really is that this is a “10 dollar solution to a 2 dollar problem”… and probably not frugal or thrifty. It is very cool engineering though. By the way, the primary alcohols in saturated vapor are explosive…so much for alcohol in the gas tank “solutions”… but there are engineering fixes for that problem too. I did research on these matters when I was an engineering tech for a big fleet operation, wrote a report an’ all that jazz.

Participantaha, good to know about the vapors and science- follow up wonder (and this prob goes way into other science I am even more clueless about) why are there so many flammable fires in ICE cars? I’m now remembering a report from firefighters who state house fires as being so much more dangerous now because of all the hydrocarbon furniture and items- fuel forever to burn. I imagine car interiors are much the same- I never forgot the one I saw on the highway, black plume and flaming, not from a collision but something else, the driver must have sensed something and was watching it from a distance along with the fire crew.
I do think the expensive solution to the cheap problem was handled via scaling, which has knock on effects to lower pricing, etc. (in so much as it can be “solved” via capitalist modes of production, or the China model of building towards socialism by unlocking quality forces of production). I find Warwick Powell’s recent writings about energy return on investment very insightful here and the comparison of how oil/hydrocarbons value return is now very poor compared to the initial discovery and implementation, and those initial estimates never took environmental effects into the equation.

Mr P
ParticipantICE car fires are usually electrical in terms of ignition, and they’re really nasty, fast and one breath of that smoke is probably the last breath. What I have in mind, ultimately, is that CCP raising the prosperity of the people through state capitalism, producing immediate social stability will lead to instability. Simple beats brittle complex…and “black swan” is inevitable. In US the past “buy off” of the “middle class” is similar and has led to instability now that buy off is over. Simple ways are redundant and protean, technically complex ways result in very large catastrophies. China is flirting with the devil. They probably know it too. Being Chinese, they’ll calm down when the crises of the western empire is past. I might say the same for Russia. The American tragedy serves as a lesson. https://archive.org/details/industrial-society-and-its-future-2003-version/ “…. the bigger the system. grows the more disastrous the results of its breakdown can be…” and so on.

KeymasterFrom what I read, they achieve the fast charging speed by pooling multiple electrical outputs from large batteries that are themselves charged from the grid. So you plug your car in, and it’s essentially 10 or so (completely making that number up) batteries charging it at once, rather than on straight 1.5MW power stream from the grid.
Of course it’s always difficult to get an accurate read on Chinese tech in English, we are relying on what they tell us to figure it out.

KeymasterOne of my biggest complaints about the west and especially America is the architecture. Can’t come up with new buildings that are beautiful, no, we’re stuck pretending we are Romans or living in a Brutalist modern world. Forget the grand buildings, even the every day buildings being put up the last 30 years are ugly boxes, and everywhere you go in America it’s the same ugly corporate nonsense. It’s like there’s a concerted effort to destroy the natural beauty around us and replace it with Soma Sheds that will put you to sleep if you look too long. I got in an argument on a local Facebook group with people complaining about graffiti, no one was happy when I said the graffiti at least added personality and color to the shitboxes. Oops.
So here’s China, creating true beauty with their buildings. A sure sign the future will come from China, the west has completely forgotten (intentionally) that beauty and art are good for the soul.

ParticipantPerimeter defense radar somewhat similar to the described gadget was around decades ago, it was useful, the fellas told me, but mostly in the desert or open country… if there were trees of bushes the wind, even a breeze, an owl, etc triggered it. So many false alarms that they didn’t find it useful…and the enemy could get plenty close enough to use mortars without setting it off. Better to post real sentries, guys who had good hearing.
