Having said that, it’s *possible* the US could send small numbers of the ground-launched variants being developed for the US Army and USMC (or ones modified further). If so, these would prove as “game-changing” for Ukraine’s prospects as everything else the West has provided, i.e., Ukraine would still lose.

The meaningful question would be the Kremlin’s response. Thus far, Russia has been very measured and consistent, but this hasn’t stopped NATO from trying to goad Russia into an overreaction. The outcome would depend on what, if anything, these missiles were to hit, I suppose.

Russia has a winning strategy with its secure defenses and supply lines, massive numerical and technological overmatch, etc. Apart from calling it quits, the empire’s options are hopelessly limited in Ukraine. I could see Western planners searching for a way to disrupt this status quo, either to get a “better” settlement or to complicate Russia’s remaining efforts. To do this, they’d have to prompt Russia into doing something other than the slow, methodical destruction it has pursued to this point. Tomahawks wouldn’t achieve this, but I could see someone floating this idea (and, as bad as this one is, there aren’t better ones). Desperation or stupidity, in other words.

• On Sunday, the gendarmerie reportedly sided with protesters. According to a local media outlet, gendarmes issued a statement saying they are “here to protect, not to terrorize” and urged the armed forces to reject violence.
