Iran moves to deepen strategic partnership with China amid post-war economic review
This is from enemywatch
Iran’s Special Representative for China, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, held his first joint meeting with key economic officials, including the economy minister, oil minister, central bank governor, budget chief, and industry minister, to coordinate Iran’s economic agenda with China and strengthen bilateral ties.
During the meeting, Iranian officials reviewed recent developments in relations with Beijing and discussed China’s economic behavior during the Ramadan War and the period when the Strait of Hormuz was closed.
Participants also examined major issues affecting bilateral relations and agreed to submit proposals aimed at deepening cooperation and resolving outstanding challenges.
The discussions focused on creating a unified government approach toward China and enhancing economic coordination across state institutions.
Dr. Ghalibaf is also working on a new Iranian strategy to elevate relations with Beijing and expand cooperation on regional and international issues, presenting China as Iran’s principal strategic partner.
Notes from Amarynth. We’ve heard from various fronts that Pakistan is intervening with China on the Iran file. I don’t question that but want to place on the table that if this is true and if it is as important as many commentators suggested, it was and is only temporary. China and Iran are both what we describe as civilizational states. Civilizational states do not need or should not need intervention from a 3rd party. Take a look at the relationship between Russia and China based on friendship and shared civilization, even though they had differences in the past. Nobody intervened during the period of differences, which were mainly about the style of communism of that era.
Iran can absolutely do its own negotiations and relationship with China and does not need Pakistan to intervene. I would argue at this time that Pakistan may have done good work intervening with the US initially, that work did not last. Somehow it lacked a certain quality and as we see every day now, it was temporary. I always believed that Pakistan was not a negotiating partner, but rather a post office letter carrier.
Responsible states do their own interaction. A state level negotiator from a third state muddies the waters. A professional moderator or negotiator can always be appointed to help handle sticky issues and explain civilizational differences. Bear in mind, China has a professional association of moderator peace makers to help countries work together and through their differences.
Good luck Ghalibaf! I am sure you will be well received in Chinese Lands. It is good to see you and the other Iranian leaders do the work to create a formal relationship with China.
