Brazil : “The West and Islam: Sources and Messianic Genesis of Zionism from Medieval Europe to the Clash of Civilizations”

NEW RELEASE FROM ARS REGIA PUBLISHER (https://t.me/editora_arsregia)

This week, we announced the release in Portuguese of another fundamental work that is still unpublished in our country. It’s the first volume of “The West and Islam: Sources and Messianic Genesis of Zionism from Medieval Europe to the Clash of Civilizations”, by the historian of religions Youssef Hindi.

The Brazilian debate on Zionism tends to be extremely poor and based on rigid and decontextualized categories like “neocolonialism” and “imperialism”, without paying attention to the religious specificity, history, and culture of the Zionist phenomenon. This is due to the fact that the debate here is still dominated by progressive intellectuals who cannot escape a certain materialist bias.

However, “The West and Islam” goes against these superficial readings and traces the roots of Zionism much earlier than Theodor Herzl, finding them in the development of a messianic accelerationism present among some of the main Kabbalistic mystics of the Middle Ages and the dawn of Modernity. Demonstrating the role of this phenomenon in the construction of a “clash of civilizations”, Hindi shows that within Islam too, the same influences have operated behind some of the main Islamic political-religious movements of recent centuries, such as Salafism and Wahhabism.

Hindi’s work thus brings unprecedented elements to the Brazilian debate on Zionism, allowing the overcoming of naive “leftist” positions and demonstrating irrefutably that we are not dealing with a recent phenomenon, but with the political consequences of a spiritual transformation that occurred centuries ago. Complementing the work, the philosopher and journalist Bruna Frascolla produced a preface.
