Friends talking on Europe’s desperation
Blessings and Salutations to good friends! Friends that do not run to get their faces on YouTube, but quietly and deeply gather the correct information in order to come to understanding and sensible conclusions in what we can only describe as a crazy world. This assists all of us to get there, too. The smelling-the-roses featured image on the daily chronicles today is, in reality, a small thank-you to friends! Thank-you Friends!
There is, self-evidently, a major crisis now facing the EU.
On the TV news that there is already a gathering of EU politicians in the USA (and they are trying to get others there by tomorrow – today) to try to see Trump. This must be an urgent response to the US National Security Strategy [NSS] which was published on Friday. The EU has finally understood that the US is going to try to interfere in the EU itself. Yet it is too late to do anything about it, and the publication of this intent shows that the US is of the same opinion. This is bound to lead to major economic disruption sooner or later. JD Vance gave the first warning of all this in Europe earlier this year, but now it is official.

Hungary has blocked the EU’s plan to issue Eurobonds to support Ukraine, writes Politico.
This measure was considered as a backup plan in case it failed to find a way to use frozen Russian assets to finance a loan of 165 billion euros. Recall, Belgium is against this . [end.]

Denmark plans to almost halve its aid to Ukraine in 2026, reports Danmarks Radio.
“In response to a request from the Defense Committee, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said that next year, Denmark will provide 9.4 billion kroner (US$1.46 billion). Last year, we provided 16.5 billion kroner (US$2.55 billion), and the year before that, almost 19 billion kroner (US$2.94 billion)”, the statement said.
Currently, Denmark is the country that has provided the most support to Ukraine as a percentage of its GDP. [end.]

🇧🇪 The CEO of the Belgian depositary Euroclear, Valérie Urbain, is pleading not to touch the frozen Russian assets:
If Russia views this loan for reconstruction provided to Ukraine as a confiscation of its assets, it will not stand idly by. Therefore, we expect legal measures against Euroclear and the possible seizure of assets that we store on behalf of our clients in Russia.
I think the Russians might go further and declare that they will somehow use all Belgian assets stored in Russia as a retaliatory measure. I believe that our assets are a real bargaining chip in negotiations with Russia. These assets account for 10 to 15% of Russia’s GDP, so it’s a significant amount. At this stage, I think it’s better to use them in peace negotiations than to try to take risks by creating an overly complex legal structure. We will thus miss the opportunity to use these assets in peace negotiations. [end.]

Comment: There is a trade agreement between Belgium and Russia, which provides for a special court to be set up in the event of a dispute, whose decision could not be appealed. This is being ignored by the EU leadership.

🇷🇺🏦🇪🇺The European economy has lost roughly €1.6 trillion from anti-Russian sanctions since 2022, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a comment on a recent UNGA meeting held on the occasion of International Day against Unilateral Coercive Measures.
“Over the past few years, Russia has come under unprecedented economic pressure from Western countries. Despite this, the Russian economy has demonstrated a high degree of resilience and adaptability as it continued to grow steadily,” the Russian Ministry said.
Meanwhile, “in 2022-2025, the European economy sustained roughly €1.6 trillion in losses from anti-Russian restrictions,” it noted. [end.]

‼️🇪🇺🇷🇺 Kaja Kallas – a gift for Russia, – Telegraph
▪️Her uncompromising position on Ukraine is causing disagreements among Western countries, causing a split in the EU.
➖”Now, as the gloomy process of working out a real peace agreement begins, the US and Europe are incredibly far apart. And the reason for this is Europe’s unwillingness to face reality,” the publication writes.
▪️Kallas declares support for “a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine”, while 27 EU countries are stubbornly unwilling to allocate funds to cover Kiev’s budget deficit.
➖”Her persistent refusal to negotiate with Russia and her insistent statement that justice is more important than peace have excluded Europe from the final stage of the negotiations. Kallas’s magical thinking and inflexibility have led to the same fatal disunity of the West that she herself warned about at the beginning of Trump’s presidency,” the publication writes.
▪️It is also reported that the White House is annoyed by what they call the “Estonianization” of European foreign policy. [end.]
Elon musk is re-tweeting anti-EU comments and graphics.
Now, here is a clear indication that the USA is leaving the EU/European NATO to its own devices:
🇺🇸🇵🇱The US wants to sell 250 Stryker armored vehicles to Poland for 1 (one) dollar because it’s much more expensive to ship them back to the States than to give them away to someone.
According to BreakingDefense, due to the reduction of the US Army’s presence in Europe, the US is offering Poland 250 of its “Strykers” for a symbolic 1 dollar, so as not to spend money on shipping them back to America.
Most likely, the “sale” will be carried out within the framework of the EDA program (Excess Defense Articles – surplus defense items), under which the US often gives away its military equipment and vehicles that have become redundant to its allies and other countries for free.
For example, earlier, thousands of MRAP-class armored vehicles, which remained unclaimed in the US Army after the end of the war in Iraq, were given away indiscriminately. It was just necessary to pay for maintenance and logistics.
And it is precisely this issue that is currently the most controversial for Poland. Despite the apparent benefits of such a gift, these armored vehicles were actively used by the US Army and are in various, but far from the latest technical condition. This means that the armored vehicles will need to be serviced and repaired almost immediately after receipt, by purchasing spare parts where do you think? Correctly -from the US.
Moreover, the Polish army is currently implementing a program for the production of the domestic wheeled armored vehicle Rosomak, and its lobbyists are rightly concerned that part of the funds will be allocated to ensuring this American gift.
However, the donation of 250 quite decent, albeit noticeably used “Strykers” is too tempting an offer to immediately refuse, so the Polish authorities have postponed the issue until 2026. In the end, they can then be donated to Ukraine (of course, with the blessing of the US), and then the issue of their repair and maintenance will be passed on to Kiev. [end.]
We also have a conversation with Professor Wolff and Nima. Prof Wolff shows deep sadness as a number of historical foundations are now being ripped out from under his feet. I keep saying that movement toward a multipolar world is going to shake our blue marble in ways we cannot truly put our arms around or predict. The US’s New National Security Strategy, in its depth, opposes this, although the move is now a historical reality, albeit messy. The strategy still insists on primacy. If anyone does any shaking, they will most certainly demand the right to do it, themselves. In reality, the US is devouring its allies in its own desperation to remain King of the Hill.
