‼️ Michael Hudson: Note 1 on the planned Alaska meeting
It is a distortion of reality for the press to depict Russia as at war with Ukraine. It is at war with NATO; Ukraine is the battlefield for this war, the arena.
NATO uses the old police tactic of Good Cop (now ironically played by Trump for the dominant US side – that’s usually the lead cop), with the EU (Britain, Germany and France) being the bad cops, good type casting.
As a passive arena for NATO expansion, Ukraine has no right to be represented, except to augment the bad-cop contingent for “peace talks.”
The talks in Alaska will be in two parts. Part I is whether the U.S. will acknowledge that the trajectory of the current fighting is for a total Russian victory, on the terms that Putin has been explaining for two years: no NATO membership, no foreign arms supplies, Nuremberg-like trials of the Banderite leaders, and perhaps reparations by Ukraine and NATO for the rebuilding of formerly “Ukrainian” Russia.
Russia may give a sop to depict the $300 billion that the EU has confiscated to rebuilding what was Ukraine’s Russian-speaking East. That would be a concession that’s not really a sacrifice.
The real discussion will determine the aftermath, starting with whether a new atomic missile and arms treaty will be put in place.
If it cannot be enacted, Putin’s position logically will be as follows:
“We don’t want an atomic war with the United States. Let’s agree that if a German or other EU/NATO missile hits Russia, when we retaliate it will only be against Britain, Germany and France, not North America.”
The US will be told to keep its submarines away from Russian borders, and to stay out of the Black Sea altogether.
That’s the “peace” proposal. Peace in the Ukrainian arena will be (or will have been) established on the battlefield, now that the outcome is obvious.
A new Ukrainian government will be a Russian proxy, not Poroshenko or other NATO puppet oligarch.

Video from Stas Karpivnik, who was born in the USSR, but moved to the USA. Served in the US military and now has moved back to Russia. This is the verbalization of the worry that exists in the sensible community. Michael talks about the good cop/bad cop situation and Trump’s… Read more »
A note from Pepe Escobar on this video.
“Pay very close attention. Stanislav is extremely serious and knows his stuff – I met him in Moscow. Going to Alaska is indeed reckless.”
“…Let’s agree that if a German or other EU/NATO missile hits Russia, when we retaliate it will only be against Britain, Germany and France, not North America.” Prof Hudson has been consistent. He wrote on February 2022, “… My only hope is that Putin and Biden can agree that if… Read more »
It does not make me happy. How is it that we’ve come this far that we will agree who we will bomb in case?
I’m so grateful! Do you know that Michael wrote this for us? It will be distributed widely, but first, he wrote this piece for us! Just Wunnerful!
Wunnerful indeed amarynth!
If Michael’s thoughts even come close to fruition it will be a great victory.
that is so cool—& totally deserving! amarynth, you define star!
Too true, Amarynth. Nevertheless, I think we need to be mindful that Goldfinger’s erratic calls are most often based on some delusion that the last sycophantic lunatic whispered in his ear. My other major concern has always been the number of rabid evangelical rapturists entrenched within the US halls of… Read more »
A comment, or an article worthy of its own page?
Very interesting points indeed by Michael Hudson… After a first smile on my face, I have some second thoughts on this (mr. Michael Hudson, if you read this, I don’t mean this as criticism – I highly appreciate your work. But I want to share some additional thoughts). If I… Read more »
That sounds about right – some very reasonable elements from Professor Hudson. Just as the Russian incursion was always about a much bigger battle, so these talks are far more than “Ukraine peace talks”. This is the current culmination of talks that have been happening for months, and with pretty… Read more »
