Evidently the “officer” believes that there is no “nuclear deterrence”. That’s quite remarkable…following such opinion, the vast arsenals of Russia and of the US do not restrain anybody…gee whiz! Maybe he’s been sharing magic powder… (I’ve seen that in the Officer’s Club Latrine maownself!)
All three of his “reasons” work just as well as reasons for both Saudi and Iran going ahead and making bombs.
If Gaddafi had the bomb he probably could have avoided being murdered. The “war plan objectives are irrational.

But the time of gadgets may not be ripe. Per MO against other civilizational-state, they’ll exhaust and suicide the conventional elements first — in this case the aerial armadas. Try to play wack-a-mole on the 50+ bases they occupy on arab oil haciendas. Madness. All it creates is additional targeting solutions and delays the inevitable.
But prolonging the agony, through this incremental process does serve the next major tasks of trying to blow up Sunni-Shia civil war (their eternal wetdream) restarted with Syrian sectarianism, and crashing the global economy and major oil flows, with convenient attribution to Iran.
Now, whether the PetroSheikhs, who do so love comfortable life of last generations, are willing to die for Empire is another matter. And they would lose it all.
Undoubtedly all this psychopathy has been anticipated and gamed, and we’ll shortly see asymmetrical responses by all civilizational-states.. the rapprochement between KSA-Iran at Russo-Chinese diplomacy was most encouraging and may yield interesting fruits..
So they really may be eventually down to gadgets and naked nuclear aggression, but after exhausting more traditional divide et impera, terrorism, and the mass suicide of the deserving criminals of the US Air Force. KeymasterGeneral comment .. Godfree is still focused on China. His book is still the best book for a starter on China. There are two main (and not the only) people during the Saker times that I very specifically “made famous”. Godfree was one. He started his newsletter and I promoted it! It was unique at the time. As time went along, I added some geopolitical content and he soon followed and some of my content ended up in his newsletter. It was, to my mind, a wonderful collab and I am thankful and grateful up to to today about that. Godfree was also one of the first members of the China Writer’s Group and we had a good time, although I was quiet. I had studied China for a stack of years before then because I also wanted to know what the ‘China Miracle’ was all about. But, I was hesitant to say too much, as I felt I did not know too much. But really, I did know some stuff then, and it was up to Jeff J Brown and, to a smaller extent, Patrice Greanville, to encourage me and mainly Jeff, but Patrice, as well, encouraged me. Again, I am grateful to those people.
At the time, The Saker allowed me one short China article per week, and complained bitterly about Godfree’s name. Free of God eh .. it did not go down too well. Sometimes, I pushed that limit with then current geopolitical content.
Things always change. Substack became a thing and Godfree saw the gap and went for it. He started with longer and very good China content, and soon became Substack famous … More or less similar to The Saker from 2014 onwards when nobody knew anything about the Ukraine, and he filled the knowledge gaps.
But being famous comes with a cudgel. If you want to remain one of the top Substack writers, you need to write what the readers want. The time when I could marvel at the Great Elephant Walk and how the Chinese folks just loved this, and became one with this Walk, and cared for their elephants, until the elephants went back of their own volition, to their area. ParticipantThat’s an astonishing article from Godfree Roberts – thanks for the link.
This is the first geopolitical analysis I’ve read that includes the US domestic agenda as an intertwined trading-piece for the foreign policy – but I see it’s a quote from Vasily Kashin, and part of a Karl Sanchez treatment of the theme, over in his substack. Here’s the quote that caught my attention:
“The 47th President’s actions in the international arena must be almost entirely subordinated to the logic of the domestic political struggle”
Thus, the supposition from Kashin. Karl has a lot of the essay posted in his piece. I have much to read,and may return with summaries.
I don’t think it’s wise to dismiss Godfree’s article just because one doesn’t trust the US or its president. As I’ve said repeatedly, I do trust Russia to be able to enforce whatever arrangement it makes with the US, regardless of the degeneracy of the US.
And another astonishing claim, this seems to be direct from Godfree:
“..word is that Trump has agreed to withdraw U.S. troops to their 1989 NATO boundaries and leave historic troublemakers like Poland, the Baltics, Finland and the Balkans without a US military presence.”
I’ve seen zero collateral for that claim, but it could only come from thus-far secret talks, and they could be plausible. May it turn out to be real. That would be astonishing indeed.
I have no faith in the US or its president either, but I have great faith in the force of imperatives, and there are several that face the US, and some part of its ruling establishment, in which Russia and China can play a role.

Good point about the timing – Events really move so fast. Kashin’s essay was on March 05 in Russian, 2.5 weeks ago. It may have been already dated by the time Karl got it to on March 09. Every other day brings a tsunami of change. Just today the stream of consciousness by Orange spun Amarynth’s head around like a chucky doll (lol, she has more stomach than me to endure the daily nonsense, mostly designed to retain narrative. I tune out to retain sanity, and not have my time wasted)
The real appreciation of the fast-developing situation by Russians may be seen in demoting their delegation sent to Riyadh in a few days, unless that is a deflection too, for the hopeless Anglo-Zionists (but this assumes Orange has any agency and is separate from the Swamp, which is highly unlikely). Either way, the real talks appear to be at undisclosed sites, not involving any in the spotlight. But that still doesn’t address an “agreement incapable” empire in fast decline, with increasing factional infighting, and no way to get predictability for even medium-term decisions.
Kashin may thus play the role of a siren. As many at Valdai, his role is to dream big, encourage, prod and seduce the sane(r) elements of the opposing elite and imperial bureaucracy towards the off-ramp. History is not encouraging towards such efforts, but the civilizational-states are led by professionals who will dot their “i’s” and cross their “t’s”. With Armageddon on the line, every fingernail will be bitten, bile swallowed, red eyes averted, and offers to ease tensions extended..
I may agree with crone on the ultimate futility, and doubt we will even ever see a Yalta II, but we shouldn’t dismiss these efforts, the good carrot to Prof Karaganov’s “Fire and Iron” approach. This includes similar positive efforts by Godfree to extend these offers of goodwill. Anything promoting the general peace and helping certain great monkeys walk off the ledge is a blessed undertaking.

i expect this is as near as i shall come to ladakh. in 1979 i was on my way in to ladakh…we’d waited in limbo for weeks, due to bad weather. pacing, re-booking, checking out alternate routes, mining everyone also stuck for the best go arounds…then china opened her border. instantly we booked a flight to hong kong. that was the way in. stay @ chung king mansions. get a mimeographed travel route, a visa & a ticket on a people’s ferry. & we were on our way sorta like the doors. sigh. ladakh…one of those sweet crossroads where either way it’s a win.

And they are as diverse as found in Orthodoxy and Islam, which themselves have a bewildering number and differing interpretations of the same prophesies. I’ve shared here and there Jewish and western Christian views, like the short clip on other thread. They easily justify the unjustifiable, such as murder of millions and even billions of innocents.

Based on WW2 stories from shipyard guys, I suspect they can or can try to get 4 carriers in the zone, not fully shipshape, but present. They’re not especially rational. Not carriers, but I remember a story about Hood. Went to sea with the civilian turbine guys still onboard, then regrettable fate was met, of course. Same with civilians working at Pearl Harbor….they finished emergency repairs en-route to battle. It is an American act. Like needing to strut, and needing to boast of irrelevant western GDP when only US remains in top five of PPP, or having the grand empty soirees of the G7, etc etc. To convince their impoverished lemmings that they still have heft in the world, and can dictate to the commies and other permanent enemies. Putin was clever. He obliquely and publicly removed that implied point of superiority, as even worth discussing in “negotiations”. It also reassured the patriotic majority the Russian authorities weren’t selling them out and returning to the bad days of the 1990s.
He was addressing also a darker agenda by Trump et al of bringing this up – to divide Russian elite through these very fears, and undermine current authorities’ position & prestige by playing upon the divide between “Atlantic Integrationists vs Eurasian Sovereignists” to use the Saker terms. The eternal divide et impera. But that boat sailed …
Lavrov had also emphasized in the Riyadh meeting that sanctions were not even discussed. Russians make a point of not bringing it up. This adds to western humiliation, of understanding not only does the world NOT revolve around them, but that others can thrive outside their system.
The terminal narcissism makes it impossible for those reared and practiced in Exceptionalism to understand they must deal with Russia and China today as equals.. it will take at least a biblical generation’s time (40 years) for the new dispensation to become normalized. A long time indeed, given the weapons we need to survive in the meanwhile!

OK, I can do it, but first a few questions and comments.
Michael Hudson knows Sergey Glazyev or has dealt with him. Michael is not impressed for many reasons, but that is not my story to tell. I have a problem with Glazyev because of his continual hatred of the Russian Central Bank, specifically Nabiulina. This is why he was sidelined, whereas his initial job that Putin gave him, was to create the foundations of an alternative currency. This was some years ago when Putin reformed the constitution and the Russian government. This was the first time that we learned about an alternative currency. I’ve written criticism on Glazyev before, in terms of much writing and little real work. He just has not delivered. So, he is very sidelined and is almost certainly not a real member of the siloviki or the rest of the Russian elite.
I don’t find this on his site, Glazyev.ru so did not find any links. What I am looking for is the …program “Social Justice and Economic Growth,” which he says “we have developed” and which has been approved by the Russian Economic Forum.. I cannot find the program, or the Russian Economic Forum. I believe it is probably somewhere out of SPIEF, but with no links, I find nothing. So I would like to read that program before saying anything.
Then, there is this bit of weirdness where he talks about an Israeli enclave on the right Bank of the Dnieper. “Some informed experts suspect this clan of intending to build a “New Jerusalem” on the right bank of the Dnieper, the foundation for which has already been laid in Dnipropetrovsk. 65/84

Not to get too technical, a crypto needs to be used and in the form of a Sovereign Wealth Fund, it is only something that can be traded – like baseball cards or stockmarket. For Russia and the other BRICS, they use it to pay .. as it is designed .. an electronic cash. I don’t know what to say about the value of this Sovereign Wealth Fund. I also cannot figure out what exactly Glazyiev’s stance is. Perhaps translation or perhaps I must read again.
But the most important is the program .. program “Social Justice and Economic Growth”, and the Russian Economic Forum. If I can have those two, I can understand this work better. I do agree, it has to be unpacked a bit.

Ah! You raised such memories….
One of my favorite genres as a very young lad, not yet in puberty, was the british sea novel, of their dashing age looting the Spanish galleons and jousting with Frenchie Bony’s fleets and the pitiless southern suns (before the discovered the health benefits of limes).
One startling point I vividly recall was the serious hatred for their marines by the common limey sailor (himself often dragooned off the limey streets like UkroNazis today on the other nazi streets, to man ships for Napoleonic Wars).
These were seen as rank enemies on board. Traitors. Perhaps I can now say they were hated so, not merely for being outside of the proper chain of command and used by the elites to keep “the other rabble” on ship under control, but equally madmen liable to get them all killed on shore given their usual exploits?? iirc, the marines controlled both the rum and firearms. “Possession is nine-tenths of the law.”
So even at the height of the British Empire, the laborers, navy and workers reviled those marines, of their class yet used explicitly against them. And it takes a special kind of mindset and man to assume this role, hated universally, including by the very elites that breed and train them so.
So yeah, given the new mission of the US Air Force after Guernica, it made sense to isolate them from the Army, as Marines were from the usual Navy lads. In the rather polemical Starship Troopers novel (not the film) there’s a good explanation dealing with the gaudy costume of marines as compaired to that plain uniform of other branches, particularly, iirc, the drab uniforms of the military intelligence “G-2” Abteilung. I could only find this > “Starship Troopers is notable for early use of the concept of Powered Armor and being an early example of the Space Marine trope.”
In the novel the “bug war” (perhaps a projection, the “Bugs” design to exterminate the humans 100% and used a nuke on a city, an “unprovoked…) provides a context for the marines. But we are left with the rather looming question of why these marines were needed prior to the war…with the fairly obvious deduction that they were used on earth to kill people of certain classes and locals. Bluntly, they were terrorists.
Anyway, Heinlein gives a fair explanation. As an Annapolis graduate officer perhaps there was a lecture on the matter. I expect there was. Ahbetcha he merely paraphrased his old lessons.
About Uncle, Quaker Brother, Smedley… He did better than Scott…and almost sloughed off the indoctrination. But traces remained…he couldn’t quite bring himself to realise that the entire capitalist plunder system was intrinsic in the character and laws of his country, and had become dominant…hence, after marine corps, he was placed in charge of the corrupt Philadelphia police, charged with bringing it to heel and probity. He militarized it. The effect was a better organized criminal organization less independent and more under the profitable control of superior criminal wealth-class and their servant pols. It’s a pity he died fairly young. One is inclined to speculate about genetic potentials and tendencies, which seemed to surface in Smedley… I doubt very much that Scott has any Quaker blood, blood that makes people inclined to doubt and question Power.
