My journey through music (2)
Part 1: Personal life phases
Part 2: Unexpected Wonders
Sometimes music, certain music, comes your way totally unexpectedly. I want to share some of these moments with you and maybe a miracle will happen to you too. Because for me, these were miracles. It is wonderful to be open to wonders.
World of Warcraft
I have played this online game for a long time and regularly you play with others. Most of them you don’t know and often they live in another country. For example, around 2010 I met Lukas from Denmark and we spent a few days playing Quests together. Just out of the blue he asked if I had ever heard of Lindsey Stirling. I hadn’t, but went to listen right away.
Wow, how beautiful and how cool. What touched me most was that unexpected moment where I was offered something so beautiful from a strange person I didn’t know at all. I was open to it, but Lukas was the one who offered it out of the blue. I can immensely enjoy this interaction between people. Without expectation, without interest, just sharing what is in your heart. Lukas thank you.
Every person has multiple sides, good and bad traits and behaviors. We may realize that we see only few sides and that we often want to see only certain sides of that other person. Moreover, what we see is only the outside and only a little the inside. This also applies to others who look at us. What do we show and what does the other person want to see?
The Voice
When The Voice became well known and also gained popularity in other countries, I started looking at YouTube more often and scrolling through the music. As a Westerner, I was not so quick to look to the East until my heart was touched by Zhou Shen. He competed on The Voice of China and I never expected China to appeal to me so much. I don’t understand a word of Chinese, but I feel it completely.
Of course you immediately start searching further, but I couldn’t find much from Zhou Shen. In the years that followed, more miracles came to light. I will also devote another whole section to Chinese music that I greatly admire, maybe even several sections because there is so much beauty. Possibly people like lower voices more, but I find those high notes go wonderfully through the body.
An orchestra is great and China has wonderful musicians. Thus humanity is at its height of civilization. So this is what is possible and let us realize that we are on our way to heaven on Earth. Many things go wrong, but only a flower can and will emerge from this in the end. Love, light and goodness will be the focal point and destination at all times.
When you are touched by this music, let your emotions run wild. As I write this and take in Zhou Shen’s music and listen to it again, I can let my tears flow. A melancholic feeling overwhelms me and I experience the wonder I am in the middle of. It is overwhelming to experience all the extremes. It makes me sad, angry, happy and hopeful at the same time.
Art survives the Artist
It is not easy to choose a few gems of lyrics from this man because you always skip more. Leonard Cohen was a word artist and performed with outstanding musicians. “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the lights get in.” An incredibly beautiful statement that is always true and offers hope. But, who is calling there? Who can I say is calling?
Timeless lyrics penned and sung by someone who decades later no longer resides on this Earth. How melancholy do you want it to be. Man creates and dies. Creation lives on forever. Everything ever created still exists in one way or another. Only that which created is gone. Or isn’t it? Perhaps nothing is lost? If it be you will.
Have fun watching and especially listening. Try to feel the music in your body. Get into the music. Get carried away on the waves that connect human beings to the divine world around us. Surrender and be one.

Thanks, Nico.
This is my favourite – Cohen’s Anthem – so aptly named and a feast in terms of music, brilliant lyrics, and a visual journey as well.

Col
Well thank you Col. I had that concert on DVD and watched it so many times. Anthem is wonderful and it was on my short list of three. Ah, so much good music he created. Hugs.
I’m totally in love with Zhou Shen!
