I won’t be surprised if Assad will be viewed as the man who’d save Syria in a couple of years. With the way the things are headed, those who wished for his downfall might beg for his return in the near future.

I meant a refusal to fight the war for him, after he catastrophically left everything for the last minute, without a ready army or adequate defenses, and refusal to negotiate with his sea of enemies on all sides to preserve the peace.
