“The United States seems to be destined by Providence to plague Latin America with misery in the name of liberty”
That was the core comment from Venezuela at the Security Council Meeting yesterday. Calls are mounting for restraint, except from the few US lackey’s, like Argentina.
United States aggression far from its coasts has ‘no limits’, says Cuba
Cuba’s delegate cited the United States’ dangerous escalation of aggression as “a flagrant violation of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations” and having “no limits”.
“It imposes the application of its laws outside its own territory and far from its coasts, where it has no jurisdiction, using assaults and the appropriation of assets,” he said, adding that such measures negatively affect Cuba.
Argentina warns Maduro’s rule threatens Latin American stability
“Peace, freedom and democracy in Latin America have been put at risk”, said the representative of Argentina, pointing out that the illegitimate regime of Nicolas Maduro has plunged Venezuela into a severe crisis that impacts the region’s stability.
Venezuelans have expressed their will at the polls in favor of Edmundo González Urrutia, whom Argentina recognizes as the president-elect, he added.
Recalling that Venezuela has been suspended from the Southern Common Market since 2017, he said the international community must speak out against the regime.
Venezuela alleges United States pursuit of oil, mineral wealth
“The United States seems to be destined by Providence to plague Latin America with misery in the name of liberty,” said the representative of Venezuela as he quoted Simón Bolívar.
He underscored: “The world must know that the threat is not Venezuela — the threat is the current [United States] Government.”
“It’s not drugs, it’s not security, it’s not freedom; it is oil, it’s the mines, it’s the land,” he warned, adding: “The world knows that, if the scale of armed attacks continues, we will exercise, with all determination, our inalienable right to self-defence.”
Preserve Caribbean as ‘Zone of Peace’, says Denmark
It is necessary to preserve the Caribbean as a ‘Zone of Peace,’ as proclaimed by leaders of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, said Denmark’s delegate, as she called on all parties to de-escalate tensions and exercise the necessary restraint.
Expressing solidarity with the people of Venezuela and their inherent right to democracy, she added: “We do not believe the democratic will of the people of Venezuela was respected during the elections in 2024 which were not transparent”.
Caribbean organized crime must be tackled using relevant UN tools, says Panama
Although the Latin America and Caribbean region is not the main source of demand for narcotics, “it has had to bear, for decades, the disproportionate cost due to the dynamics of production and distribution”, said Panama’s representative.
In that context, he urged “States in the hemisphere” to cooperate in strengthening the fight against transnational organized crime by “using the relevant international instruments” such as the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime.
United States vows to eradicate Maduro-funded drug cartels
Sanctions will be enforced to the maximum possible extent, said the representative of the United States, to “deprive [Venezuelan President Nicolás] Maduro of the resources he uses to fund the Cartel [de los Soles]”.
This, he added, includes profits from the sale of oil, as the sale of oil “enables his fraudulent claim to power and his narco-terrorist activities”.
The United States “will do everything in our considerable power to protect our hemisphere, our borders and the American people”, he pledged.
China rejects United States ‘bullying’ of Venezuela
China’s delegate opposed “all acts of unilateralism and bullying” and condemned external interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs under any pretext.
The United States must heed the call of the international community immediately, avoid further escalations and uphold the navigation safety of regional countries, he urged.
Moscow criticizes Washington, D.C.’s ‘cowboy’ conduct against Caracas
By illegally destroying civilian vessels in the Caribbean Sea, the United States is exerting pressure on an independent State whose policy is “not to Washington’s liking”, said the representative of the Russian Federation.
Describing the United States’ illegal blockade of Venezuela’s coast as “the clearest and absolutely real act of aggression”, he warned of the catastrophic consequences of such “cowboy-like conduct” for the residents of Venezuela.
‘Dialogue only path’ to ease United States-Venezuela tensions, says UN official
“Dialogue is the only viable path towards lasting peace and preventing further instability and human suffering,” said Mohamed Khaled Khiari, Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific in the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations.
Secretary-General António Guterres stands ready to support all efforts at diplomatic engagement, including the exercise of his good offices, if both parties so request it, Mr. Khiari said, adding that Guterres welcomes initiatives by Member States, offers for mediation, and proposals for peaceful solutions.
