Venezuela’s Power Play: How Moscow’s Move Caught Washington Off Guard | John Mearsheimer

This is a really good geopolitical overview and not only about Venezuela, but describing how Venezuela became the fulcrum of change to multipolarity and the start of the end of the Monroe doctrine.

I am not sure if Mearsheimer’s face should be on there, but the content is accurate until one gets to the end, where the video proposes that the US still has the opportunity to rectify its strategic mistakes.  I don’t believe so, and so this video is for the good analysis of the process of the fall of empire in the first 3/4.

Venezuela just shattered the unwritten rules of the Western Hemisphere — and Russia made sure the world noticed. In this special geopolitical investigation, we unpack how Russian warships sailed into Venezuelan waters with calm precision — a symbolic strike at two centuries of U.S. dominance in the Caribbean. This wasn’t merely a naval visit. It was a challenge to the Monroe Doctrine itself — the old idea that Washington alone sets the boundaries of power in the Americas.

What the world witnessed wasn’t Russian aggression… It was Russian positioning — a strategic counter-move decades in the making. From NATO’s long eastward push to years of sanctions pressure on Venezuela, we trace how U.S. policies inadvertently drove Caracas deeper into Moscow’s orbit. The result: one of the most consequential geopolitical realignments in the Western Hemisphere since the Cold War.

Backed by verified research, foreign-policy scholarship, and historical context, this episode explores: • why Venezuela became a central arena of U.S. influence after the Cold War, • how sweeping American sanctions punished its economy — but failed to force political change, • how Russia built a slow, deliberate strategic lifeline to Caracas, • why the Caribbean can no longer be assumed to be an uncontested sphere of U.S. influence, • and why the quiet arrival of Russian destroyers signals a new era in hemispheric geopolitics. Told in the analytical spirit of John Mearsheimer, this long-form deep dive links realist theory to modern power struggles — revealing how the cracks in the unipolar world first appeared not in Europe… but in the Caribbean.

Here’s what even the mainstream media in our country is reporting, according to the newspaper “Merkur”: “In Russia, politicians are reacting to the Trump administration’s military strikes against ships off the coast of Venezuela with nuclear rhetoric. Moscow – Russia has hinted that it could send its most advanced hypersonic… Read more »

One might also ask how likely it is that a private, global internet will provide independent, truthful information. Isn’t it essentially true that something private can never be independent and neutral? With or without AI. It’s always about money and influence. We live in a commercial world. The flaw in… Read more »

Without meaningful competition, regulation, or both, any possible justification of crapitalism disappears.

Exactly.
The producers of the video were quite open about what the process is.

I’ve seen a number of these Mersheimer videos on YouTube and unfortunately I seriously doubt their veracity. Is there a credible source regarding Russian destroyers in Venezualen waters? I have failed to come across one.

Russian warships have set off for Venezuela for joint exercises unprecedented since the Cold War.

Can’t find anything about Russian vessels there now, but perhaps the video did not state that directly.

I noticed Palki at First Post talking about a “Posting Zero” trend, caused by many factors, of course, but including the proliferationof AI slop:

I think it was the in the comments section of the “Mearsheimer” video I posted below IIRC that AI means Arbitrary Intelligence.

Here is a video supposedly of Mearsheimer. He looks 20 years or so younger, has a green halo or aura on his head, Europe on the map behind him spelled Erope (misspelling?), and he beats around the bush not really explaining what Russia’s new system is that supposedly is not… Read more »

Interesting times we live in. This appears to be AI, even if the content seems to make sense, depending on your point of view. I see there is a move in some circles to ban AI. Apart from the loss of millions of jobs by incorporating AI into industry, I personally… Read more »

A lot of fan inspired channels and probably even some dodgy ones on Youtube, but does not seen to have an official one. Found mearsheimer.com and his Substack. He appears on podcasts hosted by others too numerous to name many of whom who visit sites like sovereignista already know. No… Read more »

Very nicely put, AHH! My go-to expert in these matters is my Chinese landlady’s teenage son. He tells me there is no way right now of telling what is real.

I hope, over time, the inventive ones will come up with a way to find and destroy the AI stuff.

I really feel sorry for the youth without our experience and judgment. And most will not be given a chance in the Brave New World of technofeudalism, without guidance of many elders conveniently disposed of with C-19 and now loss of meaningful retirement and safety nets. They can be easier… Read more »

Children who were in k-6 in early 2020 are now in 6-12. After seeing everyone else in masks for years now this? I believe in coincidences and tattoos in the same way and the same degree that good Amish believe in electricity and internal combustion engines.
