Videoconference for the extraordinary BRICS summit.

I will post these up as the various countries release the speech of their envoy or leader. This is of course a quick job for now, and it will not be perfect, but, I think we need to know this at the eve of the UNGA meeting starting tomorrow, and tariffs.

There is some confusion as Peskov stated that the press will not be given access to Russian President Vladimir Putinโ€™s speech at the virtual BRICS summit, as the meeting is being held behind closed doors.

We will see what we get.

๐ŸŸ The UN Security Council is unable to fulfill its role in resolving disputes, the Egyptian leader added.

Some countries are constantly initiating trade and tariff wars, causing a significant impact on the global economy, Chinese President Xi Jinping says at the BRICS online summit.

From Lula da Silva via Telesur

The Brazilian president denounces Washingtonโ€™s deployment near Venezuela.

On Monday, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized the U.S. military presence in the Caribbean during a virtual BRICS summit.

โ€œThe presence of armed forces from the worldโ€™s largest power in the Caribbean Sea is a factor of tension incompatible with the regionโ€™s vocation for peace,โ€ Lula said in his address at the meeting, which was convened by Brazil.

Lula stressed that Latin America and the Caribbean have been a region of peace since the 1968 signing of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, which established a ban on the use of nuclear weapons in the region.

The Brazilian leader made these remarks in reference to the recent U.S. military deployment in the Caribbean, which includes eight warships armed with missiles and a nuclear-powered submarine in waters near Venezuela.

Tensions escalated last week after U.S. forces attacked a boat that allegedly departed from Venezuela with 11 people on board, who, according to Washington, were drug traffickers.

Lula also urged BRICS members to continue defending multilateralism โ€œwith one voiceโ€ in international forums, particularly at the United Nations. โ€œUnilateralism will not lead us to achieve the goals of justice and prosperity,โ€ he said.

The leftist politician called for BRICS support for Brazilโ€™s efforts to push for the expansion of the UN Security Council, a long-standing aspiration of the South American country.

Lula also pressed for cooperation on energy transition and sustainable development policies, emphasizing that โ€œdeveloping countries are the most affected by climate change.โ€ However, he defended the continued use of fossil fuels as a means to finance the energy transition.

Since the start of the trade war triggered by the United States through tariff increases, Lula has stepped up contacts with his BRICS partners, especially China, Russia and India.

U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed particularly heavy tariffs on Brazil and India, two traditional U.S. allies, in both cases citing political reasons.

Sisi: Confidence in UN Security Council Eroded, BRICS Role Rising

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi told an extraordinary online BRICS summit that trust in the UN Security Council has collapsed, undermining its ability to act as a conflict-resolution body.

โ€œThere has been a direct negative impact on the UN system, especially on the Security Council. The decline in confidence in it has prompted a number of states to demand comprehensive reforms of the Council,โ€ Sisi said.

He added that the Security Council is no longer capable of fulfilling its mandate in resolving disputes.

Sisi emphasized the growing role of BRICS as an alternative platform for dialogue. โ€œThe importance of BRICS as a prominent international forum is growing. It consistently promotes constructive cooperation between the states based on the principles of mutual respect,โ€ he said.

This seems to be the best set of key statements so far and is from Ria Novosti:

๐Ÿ”น BRICS has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving and strengthening multilateralism and reforming international institutions;

๐Ÿ”น Leaders of BRICS have reached a consensus on the need to transition towards a more equitable international order;

๐Ÿ”น Participants of the BRICS summit discussed mechanisms to counter unilateral measures in the field of trade;

๐Ÿ”น BRICS countries have agreed to maintain dialogue and cooperation regarding the Ukraine crisis;

๐Ÿ”น BRICS countries have agreed to advance the role of the “Friends of Peace” group in addressing the Ukraine crisis;

๐Ÿ”น Leaders of BRICS countries emphasized the need to strengthen unity and jointly respond to global crises and challenges;

๐Ÿ”น BRICS leaders stated that trade has become a tool for interference in internal affairs, undermining global development.

This is another take:

๐Ÿณ๏ธ BRICS leaders held an online summit to discuss U.S. tariff policy, the conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine, and the prospects for deeper global cooperation.

๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ท Brazil

Brazilian President Lula da Silva called for a โ€œrealistic solutionโ€ to the Ukraine conflict, one that recognizes the legitimate interests of all parties. He also urged an end to military actions in Palestinian territories.

โ€œThe meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska, and the subsequent talks in Washington, are steps in the right direction toward ending this conflict,โ€ Lula stressed.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ China

Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the growing challenges facing the global economy and the destructive effects of unilateral actions by certain states.

โ€œHegemonism, unilateralism, and protectionism are becoming increasingly rampant. Trade and tariff wars seriously undermine the world economy,โ€ Xi said. He called on BRICS to deepen business cooperation, remain open, and defend international trade rules.

โ€œAt this critical stage, BRICS countries safeguard multilateralism, promote closer cooperation, and build a community with a shared future for humanity,โ€ Xi emphasized.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ Egypt

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said the summit provides opportunities to strengthen BRICS integration and joint action for a fairer international order. He stressed the growing importance of BRICS as a major global forum.

Sisi also pointed to the deterioration of the international environment and the destructive role of double standards.

โ€œToday the world is engulfed in blatant dualism, double standards, and systemic impunity. All this undermines the foundations of international peace and security,โ€ he stated.

My very early comment while we are still trying to put this information in a coherent form, is that these Doctors understand the disease – they diagnose well.ย  But now for the cure.
