Venezuela: Guyana is โ€œtrying to create a war frontโ€

Amid escalating tensions over the disputed Guayana Esequiba region, Venezuela has denied Guyanaโ€™s claims that it attacked a vessel transporting election materials over the weekend. Caracas accuses Georgetown of fabricating the incident to justify foreign intervention and โ€œprovoke regional conflict.โ€

This follows months of mounting friction after Venezuelaโ€™s 2023 referendum declared Esequiba as Venezuelan territory, rejecting ExxonMobilโ€™s activities in the oil-rich area. Guyana, backed by U.S. and UK diplomatic cover and deepening military ties with Brazil, has warned of โ€œsevere consequencesโ€ for any violation of its borders.
