BRICS: Modi

Let’s take a look because Modi and his Indian counterparts wanted to regain some of their lost lustre after attacking their neighbor and visiting the G7.

RT has a summary of the speech:

India will ‘define BRICS in a new form’ next year – Modi
Issues facing the Global South will get priority under India’s chairmanship of the grouping

India intends to define BRICS “in a new form” next year and prioritize the main issues facing the Global South, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.

Speaking on the second day of the annual BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, the Indian leader said his country, which will assume the chairmanship of the group in 2026, will follow a people-centric approach. “Under India’s BRICS presidency, we will work to define BRICS in a new form,” Modi said.

“BRICS will mean Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability. Just as, during our G-20 chairmanship, we gave priority to the issues of the Global South in the agenda, similarly during our chairmanship of BRICS, we will take this forum forward in the spirit of people-centricity and humanity first.”

In his speech at the Rio’s summit’s plenary session, Modi stressed the need for BRICS members to assist developing countries. “The Global South has many hopes from us,” he said. “To fulfil them, we must follow the principle of ‘Lead by Example’. India is fully committed to working shoulder-to-shoulder with all our partners to achieve our common goals.”

Does India still have a caste system? Where people are given privileges depending on which family they were born into? So what does that say about the morality of that country?

Full disclosure: I am no fan of India, nor of Modi. I consider India to be the “fly in the ointment” regarding BRICS and I strongly believe they will continue to try to play both sides to their advantage. I see India the same way I see Turkey: untrustworthy. Your… Read more »

“Under India’s BRICS presidency, we will work to define BRICS in a new form,” Modi said. Does this new form include India staging more false flag terrorist attacks on itself (aka, the Pahalgam attack) in order to wage a war of aggression against an “enemy”–just like India’s allies, America and… Read more »

Modhi is a strange ideological man leading a still colonised mega- country. What could possibly go wrong?

Americans must wonder sometimes if their own Land of the Free is also still a colony.

I understand that BRICS or its supporters worldwide can’t ignore India since they’re a founding member of the group. However, people who keep hopes on them should also keep in mind that India behaves in a very imperialistic way in South Asia. They strong arm regional countries to sign bilateral… Read more »

India joined BRICS when Manmohan Singh was PM, i don’t know anything more than a brief reading about his time as PM but he seemed far more of a man for the Indian people than Modhi.

India under Modi is a fascist-leaning country. His support base is mostly Hindutva fanatics who believe in the BJP’s unofficial goal of ‘Akhand Barat’ subjugating the entire South Asian region. They’re the same as zionists when it comes to Muslims. Modi was behind race riots in Gujarat in 2002 when… Read more »

Would Mr. Modi understand that the Global South should first regain confidence in India given their attitude and actions over the past year? How about a “new form”? Who is their client for that?

New forms include wearing this sumptuous sari over that; making killing machines locally for Empire, rather than in deindustrialized north; fealty to Apple & Samsung “standards” (spy backdoors), rather than Huawei; Earl Grey’s Ceylon leaves or Bherjan Estate’s Organic Assam tea …..
