‘It’s a Killing Field’: IDF Soldiers Ordered to Shoot Deliberately at Unarmed Gazans Waiting for Humanitarian Aid

This is an article written by Haaretz and quickly saved in the Internet Archive.   Haaretz keeps their work under a paywall and is probably the most effective Israeli opposition.  However, there may be a copyright problem if we post the full work.  https://help.archive.org/help/rights/

This is a subset but please go to the Internet archive at the link given, for the full article.

IDF officers and soldiers told Haaretz they were ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near food distribution sites in Gaza, even when no threat was present. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed, prompting the military prosecution to call for a review into possible war crimes ■ Netanyahu, Katz reject claims, call them ‘blood libels’.

Blood libels from the Israeli side is a word to indicate that they are innocent of all and everything.  They consider this a false accusation against Jews.  They consider this anti-semitic and and say that from the time of antiquity it is an accusation that falsely accuses Jews of murdering Christians in order to use their blood in the performance of religious rituals.  From this article, this has nothing to do with blood libels.

Haarets states:  “Conversations with officers and soldiers reveal that commanders ordered troops to shoot at crowds to drive them away or disperse them, even though it was clear they posed no threat. ”

One soldier described the situation as a total breakdown of the Israel Defense Forces’ ethical codes in Gaza.

According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza, 549 people have been killed near aid centers and in areas where residents were waiting for UN food trucks since May 27. Over 4,000 have been wounded, but the exact number of those killed or injured by IDF fire remains unclear.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid centers began operating in the Strip at the end of May. The circumstances of the foundation’s establishment and its funding are murky: it is known to have been set up by Israel in coordination with U.S. evangelicals and private security contractors. Its current CEO is an evangelical leader close to U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Haaretz has counted 19 shooting incidents near them. While the shooters’ identities are not always clear, the IDF does not permit armed individuals in these humanitarian zones without its knowledge.

The distribution centers typically open for just one hour each morning. According to officers and soldiers who served in their areas, the IDF fires at people who arrive before opening hours to prevent them from approaching, or again after the centers close, to disperse them. Since some of the shooting incidents occurred at night – ahead of the opening – it’s possible that some civilians couldn’t see the boundaries of the designated area.

“It’s a killing field,” one soldier said. “Where I was stationed, between one and five people were killed every day. They’re treated like a hostile force – no crowd-control measures, no tear gas – just live fire with everything imaginable: heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, mortars. Then, once the center opens, the shooting stops, and they know they can approach. Our form of communication is gunfire.

The soldier added, “We open fire early in the morning if someone tries to get in line from a few hundred meters away, and sometimes we just charge at them from close range. But there’s no danger to the forces.” According to him, “I’m not aware of a single instance of return fire. There’s no enemy, no weapons.” He also said the activity in his area of service is referred to as Operation Salted Fish – the name of the Israeli version of the children’s game “Red light, green light”.

IDF officers told Haaretz that the army does not allow the public in Israel or abroad to see footage of what takes place around the food distribution sites. According to them, the army is satisfied that the GHF’s operations have prevented a total collapse of international legitimacy for continuing the war. They believe the IDF has managed to turn Gaza into a “backyard,” especially since the war with Iran began.

The security on the sites is organized into several tiers. Inside the distribution centers and the “corridor” leading to them are American workers, and the IDF is not permitted to operate in that space. A more external layer is made up of Palestinian supervisors, some of them armed and affiliated with the Abu Shabab militia.

In one incident, the soldier was instructed to fire a shell toward a crowd gathered near the coastline. “Technically, it’s supposed to be warning fire – either to push people back or stop them from advancing,” he said. “But lately, firing shells has just become standard practice. Every time we fire, there are casualties and deaths, and when someone asks why a shell is necessary, there’s never a good answer. Sometimes, merely asking the question annoys the commanders.”

In that case, some people began to flee after the shell was fired, and according to the soldier, other forces subsequently opened fire on them. “If it’s meant to be a warning shot, and we see them running back to Gaza, why shoot at them?” he asked. “Sometimes we’re told they’re still hiding, and we need to fire in their direction because they haven’t left. But it’s obvious they can’t leave if the moment they get up and run, we open fire.”

“They talk about using artillery on a junction full of civilians as if it’s normal. An entire conversation about whether it’s right or wrong to use artillery, without even asking why that weapon was needed in the first place. What concerns everyone is whether it’ll hurt our legitimacy to keep operating in Gaza. The moral aspect is practically nonexistent. No one stops to ask why dozens of civilians looking for food are being killed every day.”

This is consistent with what we see in Gaza every day.  So any excuse of blood libel or it was just a mistake or oops, we should not have shot this time is purely a bunch of lies.

There is a further issue being reported widely now.  The flour and sugar delivered as part of the US and Israeli aid program, is salted with drugs.  The footage shows various tablets in the flour and people arrive at barely functioning hospitals out of their minds, having had some sugar.

Trump is still bellowing that he is responsible for bringing aid into Gaza.  That is a lie.  The aid system handled by the UN via various organizations skilled in distributing aid (without shooting aid seekers and without drugging aid seekers) was functioning properly.  It is Israel that closed the entry points and Egypt obeyed and hundred of aid trucks had to throw out the aid waiting to enter Gaza.  There is also footage of aid that arrives completely rotten.

Never forget that this is a genocide uglier even than the one Pol Pot ran in Cambodia. https://www.britannica.com/event/Cambodian-Genocide. It is more brutal than the genocide in Rwanda. https://www.un.org/en/preventgenocide/rwanda/historical-background.shtml

Call it a genocide.  It is not a war.  It is a mass killing of Palestinian human beings. All the excuses that the US took over aid delivery to stop Hamas is so much bunkum.  We hear now that Trump talks about a ceasefire in a week or two.  This is part of the plan set out as the Abahams Shield reported here. “30 Pieces of Silver” – New Gaza and Middle East Plan

May I remind you of another chant in Israel: “May your village burn!”

US & Israel just blocked a UN move to shut down Gaza’s Deadliest “Aid” Scam

The United States and Israel are actively resisting UN plan to shut down the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) — US and Israeli-backed aid mechanism launched in February 2025 to deliver food and essentials in Gaza, a project that’s been killing more than it feeds.

🔹 The UN, Red Cross, and major aid groups have all refused to work with GHF, calling it unsafe, inhumane, and a violation of humanitarian principles.
🔹 Despite this, the US just pumped $30 million into the project — prioritizing political control over saving lives.
🔹 Rights groups say GHF’s close ties with the Israeli military may make it complicit in war crimes.

The message is clear: This isn’t aid — it’s humiliation, control, and death, dressed up in fake charity. They starve the Palestinians, then shoot them when they reach for bread. Shut it down. Stop playing God with Palestinian lives!!!

Chris Hedges wrote as well and if you can stand more, here he is, comparing with Hunger Games in genocides that he covered as a reporter: https://chrishedges.substack.com/p/gazas-hunger-games?publication_id=778851&post_id=167107645&isFreemail=true&r=1rgaoj&triedRedirect=true&utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
