It is a cold war grift. It turns out that this whole idea of imposing radical tariffs is all about the cold war with China. Trump says he has three months to negotiate with other countries making a deal:

Here’s the deal:

“I’ll agree not to disrupt your trade and investment and cause you bankruptcies if you’ll agree NOT to trade with China and in fact pose sanctions on trade with China. You will do to China what we asked Europe to do to Russia. You will forgo the prospects of increasing trade with the most rapidly growing economies of China, Russia and Asia. If you will agree to that, we will roll back your tariffs to only 10%. That will cause just a little pain with you. Remember, we are protecting you against the threat to trade with China … ”  What is being offered to China is economic suicide.

What Mr.Trump has done has irreversibly altered the world’s economic situation.
