Kirill Dmitriev’s presser after his negotiations with the US

Mr Dmitriev is the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. He states that he visited the US on the instruction of his president (President Putin). Note that this is the first visit of a Russian envoy since 2022. He says the talks centered around ‘restoring relations between Russia and America’, although ”Different countries are trying to undermine and thwart this dialogue’.

He says the Trump administration is different from Biden because it hears Russia’s position and understands Russian concerns. Key people in the Trump administration are willing to address the entire spectrum of Russia-US partnership issues, including geopolitical issues. There are differences, but there is dialogue, and the dialogue will help overcome the differences.

US companies want to return to Russia, and the parties addressed the issues of economy and investment. There are ideological differences.  US companies could take up niches that are open from European countries who left, and there now are opportunities for joint ventures between Russian and American businesses.

Many issues piled up during the time when there was no communication between Russia and the United States, but there are opportunities for joint business. Addressing the issues that piled up will take time, but he feels it was a positive and constructive meeting.
