An Open Letter to all Western Politicians
I have a confession to make, which is that I have not voted in elections for the last ten years. The reason is simple, I don’t trust them anymore. I am writing this open letter now, but actually I don’t expect anything from it. I think this letter will hardly be read by politicians. Certainly not read if politicians feel that I have a different worldview and my vision does not fit with what they believe in. But who knows, maybe there are politicians who will still read this letter all the way through and try to do so with an open mind. It would be great if those are precisely politicians who think very differently from me.
Dear People’s Representative,
I would hate to be in your shoes. There are hotbeds everywhere, opinions are divided to the bone, welfare and prosperity are under great pressure and the future seems like a black hole.
The situation is lousy
Here I want to make a first point. I know some people think it’s not so bad, those are the positive-minded people among us. “It’s not all that bad and we are doing the right things.” But let’s not kid ourselves and each other, this situation is serious and none of us could have imagined five years ago how bad we would be now. I think it is important to recognize this with each other because this situation did not come out of the blue.
Recently there were elections in Tunisia. The result was already fixed and this was the main reason why the turnout was only 28%. People no longer trust politics and the government. We see this in all countries. Countries with high turnout have better propaganda to make people believe they have a choice. Yes, with this sentence you may have seen enough and want to drop out. But that doesn’t make the problems go away or solve anything.
Being able to be honest
My second point is that we need to look the monster in the mouth. Politics and government are no longer trusted and there is no point in looking away or making excuses. We have to want to look honestly at what is really going on. But this is about the hardest thing to do. We know what happens to people who sound the alarm and go against the narrative. They get cancelled or even killed. Then try to be honest and go against the group.
Fear culture is no longer a rare phenomenon in a few organizations, but now widespread throughout the world. Do you recognize it in yourself and in your party? Regardless of whether you should do something about it, do you see it? Because if you don’t see it, or don’t want to see it, then further writing and reading is probably pointless. Only when you take a few steps away from the group can you observe the group properly. After all, that is also what happens when people retire or are laid off.
When people have nothing to lose from the group, because they no longer belong to it, they are free to be honest about it, to themselves and to the outside world. Suppose you are no longer in the party, no longer even working in politics. What do you see then? When you talk to people on the street, what do they say, if they can be honest? You may, now that you are free, agree with them. Because left and right, you will hear that there is no trust.
The polarization in everything has never been greater. It is so bad now that the bubbles no longer talk to each other to see if there is anything common. Even good proposals are being voted down because that “other side” brought it in. I wonder if you can see and recognize that. If you are in such a bubble, you will most likely brush this away and indicate that it is up to that “other side”. You are reasonable, you are listening and you know what to do. What does the man on the street say?
Willing to see reality
The third point is looking at reality. Where do we stand as a country and a world? How much things have changed in the last 20 years, economically and socially. Even in “rich” countries, poverty in the “underclass” has increased. The world has never been more unsafe, now with conflicts that could turn into a third world war. Massive pollution is causing massive healthcare costs. I think you can add to this list many more miseries we have fallen into.
The question, of course, is how this came about. And here we point to others. It is always others who cause misery. We did nothing. Apparently we were not able to take care of each other together with those others. People, unfortunately, have a short memory. Everything, but everything, has a history. If we do not want to look at that, we cannot help but repeat ourselves and make things worse. Who still studies history when law earns more.
Who benefits?
When we study history carefully and see what forces are active, we can try to answer the question of who benefits from set goals and specific actions. “Follow the money” exposes a lot of motivation. Who makes a lot of money from weapons? Who has made lucrative deals? Who wants more power to themselves? Yes, of course you can look at this both ways. It is easier to attribute it to the “other side”.
Here history is extremely important because it shows how things really are. At least, if that history is told objectively based on provable facts and evidence. This is where things go thoroughly wrong, however, because it seems as if the bubbles have their own history. If we cannot be honest, then our reality will only get worse. Reality will always overtake fantasy. Indeed, this is exactly what is happening now and we must be willing to see it.
Bringing in our own experience
This fifth point should actually be easy. We all have the experience of the lies that have been put out into the world by people with interests. There have been so many scandals. Governments that withheld things, twisted things, lied and cheated. There are countless whistleblowers who report serious abuses, but are also ruthlessly thwarted. Examples everyone knows, such as the so-called weapons of mass destruction that were not there. I am sure you know of more.
The question here is who or which country has put out the most lies in the last hundred years? Which countries have benefited the most from what has been proclaimed as “truth”? Which countries benefit most from what is happening and who is at the controls? How did rich countries get that wealth and what did they have to do to get it? If they did it for a hundred years, would they still be doing it? If someone has lied ten times, what is that eleventh story worth?
Who wants to hide things?
In 2020, polarization has skyrocketed worldwide. This is still a taboo subject. Research on excess mortality is seriously frustrated. Scientists who express an opinion different from the narrative are excluded from the debate. There is no longer an emergency, so why not want to investigate matters thoroughly now. Especially since an awful lot of damage has been done and is continuing. Who has something to hide here and why are these forces so great?
We are back to the culture of fear, because this one specific example alone shows how wrong it is in our society. And what we see is that it cannot be stopped. In the end, the truth always comes out. It is quite understandable that those who have been guilty of such things as conflicts of interest hope that cases will be delayed. The JFK documents are also still being withheld. This sixth point is a big problem.
By now, have I written enough to wander in and not want to see the common thread? You don’t want to be a dissident. Or perhaps you do not yet see what is going on, which is a country and a world in decline. You may not yet see that the financial system is on the verge of collapse. Or you think no one will push a red button. Is there not yet enough terrible hatred in the world toward each other, has that realization not yet penetrated all of our being?
What would you like?
The last point, that beautiful seven. A lucky number for many. Suppose you are lucky and have the opportunity to bring everything and everyone together again. How would you do that? Perhaps you are already trying, but your method is not yet successful. So what could you do differently? Or should that “other side” just get moving first? Because they are not right about anything and you have the truth. Because you know the history and they do not. Whose interests are you really serving? Honestly?
Ah, I am a dreamer. I hope my open letter can bring something positive into the world. My intention will certainly help, but it is not enough. I experience that we have become embroiled in a spiritual conflict, a battle between good and evil. All people on the good side and “something else” on that evil side. That evil that has taken possession of some and is spreading among humanity through hatred. We can only fight that with love. A very individual fight.
That is exactly what I ask of you. Do you want to fight against evil? No, not the evil on that “other side”, but the evil within yourself. Believe me, it is there, it is in everyone by now. Also in me. I fight against the evil in me and want to be love above all. I want to be honest. Not take the easiest path, but always strive for the truth. Even if I am alone in that. No talking to get rid of it, no lulling myself to sleep. Seeing reality and just being honest, with myself and others.
It will only work if you create distance and elevate yourself in consciousness. Mentally, most people will want to escape the pain of the lies. We have been lost for so long. Altogether, that’s what makes it so difficult to step out of that as individuals. We are facing a spiritual challenge. Nothing religious, but raising our consciousness. I hope you are ready for that. The world needs you and you need the world. I hope this is a start.
Please re-read this open letter in a month to find out if anything has changed.
Quite a few years ago I ran into the Non-Violence Charter, a web site and program crated by the Australian, Robert J Burrowes, in 2011. https://cdn.countercurrents.org/burrowes191211.htm The point is, you are invited to make a pledge to take personal action to progressively eliminate the violence you inflict on yourselves, on… Read more »
