“400 years ago, the Great Tea Road connecting our countries passed through Kazan [where the BRICS summit is taking place],โ€ Xi said. โ€œAnd it was through this route that Chinese Wuyishan tea was brought to Russia.”

The Great Tea Road, also called the Siberian Route, was one of the major Chinese trades routes connecting the biggest Russian cities, including Moscow, with China. In 1915, China exported 70,000 tons of tea to Siberia, which accounted for 65 percent of the country’s tea exports.
