Iran has refused to soften its response to the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and intends to retaliate against Israel, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing sources.

According to them, the U.S. asked its allies to send a message to Iran to de-escalate the situation. The U.S. has indicated that the efforts of Iran’s new president to improve relations with Western countries will have a better chance of success if Iran shows restraint.

According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, a senior official in President Joe Biden’s administration criticized Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for being ungrateful and disregarding the significant U.S. aid provided over the past 10 months of the war. The official described recent conversations between Biden and Netanyahu as difficult and tense.

“Biden realized that Netanyahu was lying to him about the detainees,” the official told Haaretz. “He’s not saying it publicly yet, but in the meeting between them, he specifically told him, “Stop bull*****ing me.'”

The official noted that while the U.S. is preparing to assist Israel in responding to potential Iranian and Hezbollah retaliation for recent assassinations, there will be no support for actions that escalate the war. “Netanyahu is trying to prolong the war instead of focusing on how to get to an exchange deal,” the official said. “It’s making it harder for us to continue supporting Israel over time.”

In response, Netanyahu’s office issued a press release stating, “The prime minister does not interfere in American politics and will work with whoever is elected president, just as he also expects the Americans not to interfere in Israeli politics.”

It is clear that Netanyahu is waiting for Trump to win the election.  The war continues with schools shelled and the carnage continues unabated.

Al-Jazeera correspondent Anas Al-Sharif reports from Gaza City, where Israeli occupation aircraft bombarded two schools sheltering hundreds of displaced civilians, leaving many trapped under the rubble.

The heinous attack slaughtered at least 25 Palestinians, most of them children, with their bodies scattered around the schools due to the direct missile strikes.

An official Iranian source to Al-Jazeera: Tehran will deliver two messages to Safadi (Jordanian Foreign Minister): one for the Jordanian leadership and the other for the US and “israel.”

Venezuela may transfer mining rights to BRICS countries. According to the head of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, President Nicolas Maduro received an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the BRICS summit, although the country is not yet a member of the union. Maduro himself said that Venezuela could transfer the rights to develop oil and gas on its territory to the countries of the organization, and this could happen right at the October summit in the Russian Federation.

“If all these people in the north and their partners in the world make the mistake of their lives, then all the oil and gas permits that have already been signed will go to our BRICS allies. The largest investments we currently have in the oil and gas sector come from BRICS,” Maduro said.

Mexico cannot be a BRICS country as it is somewhat like with the Ukraine – it is politically better placed as a buffer. To have Venezuela as a BRICS country would be a major loss for the hegemon.

-The U.S. now imposes sanctions on a third of all nations, including 60% of poor countries — often with the goal of regime change. Despite the toll these sanctions take on local populations, they rarely lead to the fall of those countries’ governments.

There also is a change from South Korea, which just offered to assist North Korea with flood relief to North Korea after major floods.  South Korea is ready to provide North Korea with relief supplies for damage caused by recent heavy rainfall, South Korea’s Red Cross said, marking a rare outreach under the administration of President Yoon Suk-yeol to its neighbor.

Most senior Western diplomats fly to meet Iranian and Hezbollah officials in Beirut and Tehran as British Foreign Minister Lammy and Defense Minister Healy arrive in Lebanese capital.

China and India have agreed to speed up negotiations over their border disputes and maintain peace and tranquillity in border areas as stand-offs along part of their Himalayan frontier enter their fourth year. During the 30th round of border talks held in New Delhi on Wednesday, the two sides also agreed to “focus on specific issues related to the China-India border, accommodate each other’s legitimate concerns and reach a mutually acceptable solution” soon.
