Drone attack on Tel Aviv: Yafa drone

The spokesman for Yemen’s Armed Forces has warned Israel against any further act of aggression against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, saying the coastal city of Tel Aviv in the 1948 Israeli-occupied territories is no longer a safe place as it is within range of Yemeni weapons.

From Alon Mizrahi

Last night Tel Aviv experienced its first (of many) deadly Houthi drone attack, which killed one man in his bed and injured several more. Earlier yesterday Israel carried out a big attack in Lebanon, killing 5 people and wounding a dozen or so more.

But a deadly drone attack in Tel Aviv is something new: as far as I can remember, no casualties were ever reported in central Israel from missiles, rockets, drones, or enemy airplanes. So a new threshold was crossed late last night, psychologically and operationally.

This got me thinking: why does Israel continue to escalate when a counter-escalation is 100% guaranteed?

Israel cannot escalate and not get hurt more. Everybody knows that. So why does it still escalate?

More than one answer is needed to explain this phenomenon, but I think it makes sense to a large degree if you consider how much Israel is bought into its fantasy of supremacy.

Supremacy always sits at the very top of a colonizer’s mind; it is the center of emotion, feeling, and thinking. Everything is created by and for it and comes back to it.

And so, faced with an opponent of comparable might, a colonizer is sure to panic and overreact, but not because of the direct material challenge (which can be solved by compromise and peace); it is the danger to the model of supremacy that threatens to destroy the colonizer’s entire model of being.

So Israel, as would and does any other colonizer culture, must escalate not out of pragmatic calculation, but out of an uncontrollable urge to prove to itself that the center of its existence – its supremacy – is still valid.

And so Israel is stuck in a purgatory of its one creation, where it is no longer militarily superior to its enemies but incapable of admitting it due to the centrality of supremacy in its worldview.

While Israel (or the US vs Russia, Iran, or China) cannot achieve supremacy on the battlefield, as its enemies have achieved enough strategic parity to null all its tactical advantages, it is still fully committed to its guiding vision of supremacy, and even clings to it harder in times of fear and distress.

And so Israel (likewise the US) is doomed to escalate itself into nonexistence (or at least irrelevance) in pursuit of an unattainable affirmation of a twisted, deranged dream with eternal and complete supremacy at its epicenter.

And this is why I know Israel will keep on escalating. Nothing remains in its psychology, politics, or outside support that can put a reality check on its spiraling psychosis. Much the same, by the way, can be said about the entire West.

Keep in mind it was Iran that launched the first strike to the cancerous abomination in April making it look like a sitting duck. Hezbollah and now Yemen are just following up with what Iran started. 🇮🇷🇱🇧🇾🇪

Why the “buy into fantasy of exceptionalism”? Howard K Smith explained why the previous nazi regime did the same thing. (technical background> old bicycles had direct coupled pedals, ie no coasting clutch) Smith said they were as the man going downhill on a bicycle, he had to keep pedaling faster… Read more »

Well, bombs do EMP, and depending on the model, a lot of it, or not. The people who know are not going to tell. EMP, however, works best at very high altitude. https://www.atomicarchive.com/media/photographs/testing/us/fishbowl.html https://archive.org/details/DTIC_ADA469481 excerpt>  (30-248 miles) to evaluate the destructive mechanisms and effects of high yield explosions against ballistic… Read more »

I have similar view, expressed on Salon to Amarynth.  The global Axes of Resistance have a similar impression too. This is why they escalate so finely, taking such agonizingly slow slices to our frustration, hoping to exhaust and attrit the demons into submission before they can trigger Armageddon. God Bless… Read more »

Alastair Crooke often says this supremacy mindset and the need for it to exist as apartheid is central to the Israeli identity. Probably same with the US, there is the US and then everything else, which is to be ruled..
