Argentina under Milei (our economists can read it and weep!)

(Benjamin Norton gave us a Twitter or X update

Under “libertarian” President Javier Milei, Argentina is de-industrializing at breakneck speed. Neoliberal economists don’t care about the real economy, only fictitious capital in the financial sector. Argentina’s industry is collapsing, losing many good manufacturing jobs.

Javier Milei’s “anarcho-capitalist” vision for Argentina is to make it a de-industrialized resource colony for US corporations, abandoning all sovereignty and using the US dollar, while its people provide low-paid services to the Global North. This is exactly what he is doing.

End Ben.

Argentina now has the highest inflation of any country globally, above Lebanon and Venezuela. The free-market “libertarian” was supposed to reduce inflation through “fiscal responsibility”. However, Javier Milei’s policy of ending price and exchange rate controls has pushed inflation up more than 100 points within just a few months. Argentina already has one of the lowest minimum wages in Latin America, at just $200 per month. Now, the megadevaulation of the currency and record inflation have made life impossible for many. Milei has also eliminated more than 24,000 public sector jobs and plans to reach 70,000 jobs cuts—a nightmare scenario for those newly unemployed during a record-breaking inflation period.

And we all know that this was the plan.  It is a recreation of ‘cheap labor’, we always use the example of bananas, a banana republic, to keep the region in shackles to the ‘Big Babylon’ in the North.  There is nothing new.  They tried with Brazil but somehow it did not work.  Even from jail Lula had too strong an influence.  Now it is another rape of Argentina and certainly not the first time.  For those that do not pick up on the LatAm region, Argentina has the  biggest IMF loan in human history.

Yet there are some good vibes between Argentina and China.  All may be lost momentarily only and we may have to thank China again shortly into the future.

For a bit of the nasty, I’m really glad they skipped BRICS

OK – GET READY TO CRY FOR ARGENTINA Yes, A-team, Ben does great work. MY take – he is outlining classic Monroe Doctrine chicanery – IOWs, any intervention in the political affairs of the Americas by foreign powers is regarded as a potentially hostile act against the United States.
