A short note on the love/hate relationship: with Telegram

Telegram burst on our consciousness as a real tool to do real work at the start of the SMO when all the Russian sites were suddenly not available, under DDoS attacks or otherwise hampered in the Western media.  RT was hammered, Sputnik was 404, the Russian MoD and Russian formal sites were suppressed and everything Russia was just simply excised from any Western internet.  I was fortunate as I live in a country where that did not happen.  We all learned to use VPN’s and yes, Telegram.

Telegram saved the complete Russian information dissemination activity from all directions.  (I do wonder if they made friends with Pavel Durov again as there was a fight.  They wanted Telegram to save Russian data to Russian servers and Pavel said no and left Russia and is now a world citizen in Dubai).

I must have something like 150 Telegram channels and this is the hate relationship.  It is an altogether different way of presenting data, but what I don’t like is the sheer speed.  If there is something that I want to use, I have to do it on the spot as it is not so easy to make a quick bookmark and get back to it.  Telegram for Linux and Telegram for Windows works a little differently as well, but it is so easy to run a translation bot over different languages.  As is the internet as a whole, we cannot blame Telegram for bad data as I’ve seen so many do.  We can only blame ourselves for not sifting the data and verifying what we need.  Even saying that I’ve fallen into Telegram Holes where data gets repeated throughout a number of channels, and it looks realistic but is really just a repeat.

Yes, there is a reason for these musings.  A week or so ago, Maria Zakharova suggested a sizable list of worthy Telegram Channels and I am patiently working my way through.
